Haggadah Shel Pesach, B'Damayich Chayi

More than just a commentary on the Haggadah, this work is a meditation on Jewish identity. October 7, 2023, shattered our illusion of security as Jews living among the nations. In its aftermath, the Jewish community is undergoing an existential crisis, struggling to find its place in a world we no longer recognize.
Every year on Pesach, we relive our national birth. So, if we want to understand who we are, we must look to the Haggadah. Combining rigorous Talmudic analysis with a candid sociological eye, this thoughtful elucidation of the Haggadah reveals how the timeless words of Chazal illuminate, in every generation, what it means to be a Jew.

“Striking and original.”
Rabbi Daniel Yaakov Travis, Rosh Kollel, Kollel Toras Chaim

“Unique in the annals of Jewish history.”
Rabbi Meir B. Kahane, Menahel, Chedvas Bais Yaakov

“A profound work of hashkafah, firmly rooted in Chazal, Rishonim, and Gedolei Acharonim such as the Vilna Gaon, Maharal, and Ramchal.”
Rabbi Noach Isaac Oelbaum, Mara D’Asra, Khal Nachlas Yitzchok

About the author:
Rabbi Forgy’s analytic methodology took shape during his four years at Yeshivas Bais Yisroel, where he also earned semichah. After marrying in 2013, he learned in kollel for six years: two in Ramat Eshkol, Jerusalem, and four in Queens, New York. In 2019, he began law school at New York University, graduating in 2022. He then joined a national law firm specializing in complex litigation.
Rabbi Forgy lives in West Hempstead, New York, with his wife and five daughters, of whom the youngest two were named for victims of October 7. Beginning in April 2026, he will be clerking for a federal judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
